About the Event

The Burford Dolls’ House is one of the great treasures of the Tolsey Museum. Visitors from across the world are drawn to Burford, and many find themselves captivated by this remarkable miniature house and the extraordinary craftsmanship within it.


The Cream Tea Celebration of Lives & Artistry in Miniature' will mark the launch of two books that celebrate this much‑loved creation in complementary ways.


Lives in Miniature written Anne Youngson offers a richly imagined journey into the Burford Dolls’ House. Set in the late eighteenth century, it brings to life the tiny figures who “live” and “work” within the great house — itself modelled on a real Burford residence. Moving room by room, each character is given a voice, revealing their hopes, secrets and daily routines. The book includes colour photographs of every room and all twelve characters, allowing readers to explore the original Dolls’ House as they follow the unfolding…
