About the Event
Our success is totally dependent on time generous volunteers
To achieve our ambition ‘to provide a place in which residents and visitors can meet, enjoy, share and secure Burford’s rich heritage’ we are reliant on the continued support of our greatly appreciated, wonderful team of volunteers. But now that the Archive has opened, we are looking to recruit many additional volunteers for the exciting range of new activities that are now available. Might this be the right moment for you to become further involved in the Town via the Burford Tolsey? If you would like to learn more about the possibility of assisting us with our fascinating work, then you are sure of a warm welcome to the Volunteers Reception – 6.30 pm on Thursday 6 April. What roles are on offer? Literally there will be something for everyone to consider, whether you are IT minded or the exact opposite! It could be on a regular or ad-hoc basis because we are very flexible; everything can be arranged around the time you have available including:
- from front of house visitor welcoming, to backroom IT.
- from sorting and cataloguing artefacts and documents, to recording and transcribing local memories of times past.
- from conducting tours, to making outreach visits to residents’ homes.
- from tending the garden, to helping to arrange an exhibition.
- and so the list continues.
Will you qualify? The only qualifications needed are an interest in discovering and sharing the Town’s heritage and a desire to have fun and meet other likeminded people. No specialist knowledge is necessary because full guidance will be given about the work involved. So what will be discussed at the Volunteers Reception? We will start with an overview of our ambitions and our achievements to date before outlining a typical journey that any item takes to become accepted as part of our permanent collections and available for the public to enjoy. This will be followed by an explanation of the exciting range of roles available, all of which can start the moment you are ready. But that’s not all because there will then be an opportunity to get to know the other members of our Team over a glass of wine and if something appeals to you to discuss it further with one of the persons responsible. If this all sounds fun and could be ideal for you, come along to join us at 6.30pm on the 6th April.
